New book from Daniel Quinn!
If They Give You Lined Paper, Write Sideways

"One of the most troublesome questions I've been asked--and it's been asked hundreds of times--is: 'Where do these strange ideas of yours come from?' In the beginning, I thought it was just the usual where-do-you-get-your-ideas? question that all authors receive. My readers soon set me straight. Read more ...

Ishmael Inspired

These are just a few of the Ishmael related artifacts people have sent the Quinns...

The stuffed toy on the left was a gift of a group of people in Austin, TX, the one in the middle from some folks in Massachusetts, and the one with the banana was sent to DQ by his brother. Mr. Quinn has also received many photos of gorillas in various zoos across the country. Many people have sent poems and song lyrics that have been inspired by their reading of the book.

Arwinder Kaur, a social worker in British Columbia, Canada created the silk screen gorilla head on the left (the image on the right is the back of the shirt). She is an Ishmael activist who has discussed Ishmael on a cable TV program. Ruth Miller, from New York, was one of the very first people to write Mr. Quinn in February 1992. She made the hand-embroidered t-shirt of the original hardcover book (center). The King Kong toy is an antique from the 1950's. He is part of the Quinns' personal "gorilla collection" that they started long before Ishmael as a character was even thought of!

The "Ishmael lives" t-shirt on the right was created by Anselm Atkins. He is a stained glass artist, naturalist, and writer who has become a good friend of the Quinns' as a result of Ishmael. He lives in Georgia and publishes a newsletter called Anselm's Nature Notes.
